Similar to high school , I took part in auditions of various societies and clubs of the uni. Got selected in the ones associated with my favorite hobbies — The Literary Club, ‘Kavyanjali’ and Art & Craft Club, ‘PaperTech’. Also involved in some Campus Ambassador Programs. After all, this exposure was what I had desired for in college after knowing about the experiences our seniors had regarding academic competition, time-management, extra curricular activities, the opportunities one meet in college and how they had explored and found their purpose. The best advices I was offered were : “Be open to try new things” and “Do what makes you happy”.

Fast forward to April 2021 , I was surfing the web searching for some good CSS tutorial. It was then that I saw an advertisement of some bootcamp. I continued to that site and dicovered that it was a Web Development Bootcamp wherein 100 lucky students will be offered scholarship. My exams were scheduled for next month so I decide to give it a try. Filled the form, followed their social media handles (so as to not miss an update from them) and went back to my VS Code; I had found the required CSS syntax.

Scholarship Email

There was an email notification, dated April 27, Subject being — “Congratulations Web Development Scholarship Winner|| Sudans Technocrats Foundation”. I rushed to mommy with laptop in my hand. It was really unexpected; I had made my place as a scholar. The email summed up with general instructions about the classes.

So, this was the first opportunity, I got and that I executed. The bootcamp began from 2nd May — an induction ceremony followed by the introductory session with our mentor, Ms. Smile Gupta (a frontend developer). The bootcamp was about 15–20 days long. We were told about the basic HTML first. Our mentor made us familiar with the tags, the IDEs and various platforms for reference. Ps : W3 schools is an extremely helpful website if you’re trying your hands at web development; I got to know about this website by our mentor. Followed by HTML , were our lectures on CSS. I was a beginner and had a bunch of queries. Fortunately, got rid of all of them after these sessions. I’ll say the most tough of all was Javascript. It was like an ocean. What I have planned is I’ll continue practicing Js for it’s an integral part of the Dev World.

So, I used this month of May to its fullest; attending 9:00 to 12:00 college classes, staying late for completing assignments to meet deadlines, learn Web Dev — 5:00 to 6:00 pm everyday, completing the tasks of bootcamp and attending Society meetings of college.

Final task of the bootcamp was to submit a project using HTML, CSS and Javascript. I made a website for a makeup brand- Fly Diva. I divided the website in four sections: Home, Products, SheTalk and Contact. The sources I used for images were www.freepik.com, undraw.com, etc. I also used W3 schools for reference. I made the project in 3 days. Used HTML for the syntax, CSS for the styling part and Javascript for the SheTalk section. The SheTalk section generates a makeup tip by some famous celebrity on each click. I implemented all my learnings of this bootcamp in making the FlyDiva Website. Finally, I deployed my code on GitHub. Ps : It was a tedious task since I was doing it for the first time. I got help from online tutorials about it.

Overall, it was a great experience indeed. Looking forward to more of such opportunities as I sail through the next four years of university. ✌🏻

<H1> I learned what makes me happy </H1>
